Our Rabbi
Rabbi Zvi Solomons came to Reading with his wife Shira and family in June 2008 to work for Goldsmid Road. The Jews of Reading and Berkshire are delighted to have an Orthodox Rabbi both to serve the community and to represent us externally. Rabbi Zvi was encouraged by a large group of friends both from Goldsmid Road and younger newcomers to continue to be their Rabbi, and so he and his family are staying in Reading and serving those members of the community who need a Rabbi and services like Cheder and hospitality.

Rabbi Zvi has known the Reading Jewish Community for over 25 years. He came here as a postgraduate student to study Land Management, serving on the Board of Goldsmid Road and as President of the Jewish Society. Coming here as a Rabbi with his family from Princes Road Synagogue in Liverpool, Rabbi Zvi and Rebbetzin Shira resurrected the Cheder, brought in youth activities, communal Friday night meals, a news list by email, weekly newsletters and hospitality as well as maintaining the communal learning programme and services.
“We love living in Reading and are lucky to be able to provide exciting services for everyone in the area,” said Rebbetzin Shira. Rabbi Zvi is proud to serve the Jewish Community of Berkshire. “Goldsmid Road inform us that they cannot afford a Rabbi. Fortunately we are in the position that we can continue to provide a good service to all the Jews in Berkshire and the region.” The Rabbinic couple have three children, who take an active part in the life of the community. |
